God ordered Mose to get 12 name-written rods from the head of each tribe, like Aron’s name is carved on Levi’s rod, and lay them down in the tent of the meeting in the ark of the covenant law. The 12 rods symbolize God’s chosen people and indicate their identity, so it warns the rebellious.
